Do you get the feeling lately that every time you ask someone for something you get redirected to another person? Maybe it’s just me and this little vent fest is all for naught? I just get the feeling that as a society—whether at work or in our social lives—we could do better to take on the task to figure out someone else’s conundrum.
Do the work! Do the brainstorming together. It’s as if the burden is too heavy to carry, or we just don’t want to be bothered with the impromptu struggle of another fellow human. I’m just going to say it, and it may sound ‘judgy’, however I think we have become too full of ourselves. We are just too busy, too weary, too self absorbed.
We are so consumed by our own daily shit to take a few steps backwards in order to help someone. We are not all brain surgeons therefore taking a few minutes out of our day to help someone should not be praised to the extend that it is when someone actually does something. It’s simply our duty as a citizen, or at least that’s the way I see it.
I get it, I truly do understand that we fill our days up to the point that there is very little room for error. Let’s make a conscious decision to realize that what we think is important can actually wait—just a little—in order to help someone who may be struggling, lost, confused, or who may just need someone to talk to.
September is an extremely busy month for many. I hope you take the time to take on a little more by helping another person, even if your plate is full. Of course I am not suggesting abandoning self care, or placing someone’s needs above your own. It’s more of a shifting over to make another seat at the table. So shimmy over just a little and hold onto that hot potato a couple seconds longer.
