I know last week I mentioned how my mother smothers us with love by constantly offering us something to eat. It’s how she best shows her love. At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, I guess I tend to do the same thing when having dinner parties. However, I would argue that love is shown not only through food, but through sharing part of what we can give, and giving with an open heart.
What do I mean? It is in the grand gesture of the invitation and the opening of your home, but love is shown also through the time it takes to bake warm cookies or giving a gift with all your heart. Love is shown in all actions that require one’s time as well. For example, to drive a great distance for the perfect dessert, or the thought of picking out the perfect floral arrangement. Love is also the simple action of accepting an invitation with a smile and expressing genuine words of gratitude.
I guess today I am feeling loved, and it’s all encompassing. I hope to have made core memories for the children who attended, some meeting their extended family for the first time. It is the reason for living. What is a home for but to share it with those we love. What is the point of waking up each day and working hard to earn a living without sharing—even in the humblest of ways—with others.
These next few weeks many of us will be caught in the rat race of buying, wrapping, gifting, and exchanging in the hopes of creating a little magic for the children in our lives. Take not for granted the love that is expressed through the million little gestures others do for you. Let these gestures overflow you with love and encourage you to pay it forward. Create a needed flow of energy of love. I guess what I am trying to say is savour that home baked cookie, for it is all LOVE!
