Mystery over mastery
Invisible yet visible in gesture and smile
Untouchable yet palpable
Undeniably powerful
With its most delicate touch
To witness it is to testify
That without it you cannot deny
Its purity and perfection
Innocently innate
That grand little thing you call love
I took my daughter and her friend out on an outing to the mall. “It’s not a date!” just so we are clear. However, it had all the magic a first date should have. At the tender age of 13 the jittery chatter and the awkward silence made me smile and saddened me for the strangest reason. I thought of the heartache that can come with ‘puppy love’ as my father would put it. I shook off this thought and tried to stay in the moment as we weaved in and out of the crowds and I watched their body language move in a familiar rhythmic pattern—reach and pull back, reach and pull back. Time cannot be stopped and I cannot protect her from the pain that can come from coupling (whether they would admit it or not). I can only watch and witness magic in its purist form—love.
