Before hearts sync the eyes must meet
The soul stirs after hearts awake
A smile awakes the yearning to couple
A couple forms after spirits dance as one
One love unites
Two lives conjoin
One heart carries a second beat inside
Inside it grows with love that awaits it on the outside
The outside is where the hard work lies
Hearts are never whole for first they must divide
Then hearts await until they are joined—together forever—on the other side
I was trying really hard to write a much more upbeat poem for Valentine’s Day, but this is the road where I was consistently led—so I let go of my expectations and just let it be. They say the heart cannot be commanded, well I see neither can a writer’s will. I hope you all enjoyed your day, whether romantically coupled or alone with your awaiting heart.
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!
