The Power Of A Good Cry

A broken heart sits just beneath the surface

A tragic past has changed her future in a flash, and yet she smiles with a light that emanates a room which casts so bright

Bubbly at the surface and tender words on her lips, I can’t help but wonder how her strength can eclipse

The burden that she carries—truly I am amazed—for I’ll admit it’s a weight that most people would not be able to raise

When kindred souls collide it’s hard not to feel moved deep inside

Speaking of her past we both shed tears that had amassed, even when her past had been so grievously freely broadcast

She takes it all in stride—gives moments to her grief—but doesn’t let it stop her

She has a lesson she must teach

“You live your life with such grace” are the only words that I could muster

I have so much to learn from this soul and her fragile ability to discern

Between what is good and what must always be returned

When beautiful souls enter your life, celebrate them and recognize them for the gift that they are. Don’t let your fear of being your authentic self stop you from expressing how much they mean to you. I dedicate this poem to a new friend in my life who unbeknownst to me has showed me how to smile in the face of unimaginable tragedy. Never underestimate the power of a good cry—it can not only be cathartic, but revealing, and ultimately be the spark that lights the fire of friendship.

Cheers to new and powerful life experiences.

May good people slip past our defences every time.
