A Collective Greeting: From Us To Them

‘Play—they will hear us!’
by Gilda Tavernese

Smiles sit on faces like the masks that we wear, covering the true sadness that truly exists there

Our hearts remain saddened as we raise our glasses high, no one knows the sorrow that we really feel inside

A loved one is missing around the table it’s true, but oftentimes we pretend that nothing is wrong,

When suddenly a tear falls through…

Barriers are broken and hearts are united, we finally see each other, no longer divided!

We ALL have loved ones that have crossed over, so why feel alone in such moments—we don’t need closure!

We need laughter and happy memories that delight, deep in our souls is where we faithfully must unite!

For we are one people whose experiences are very much alike, we feel pain and the same sadness when tragedy strikes

So let’s all send them a collective greeting from earth to heaven, it doesn’t matter how much time has past, two or forty-seven!

We know they can hear us so don’t be bashful, shout it out loud—raise up that glassful!

This Christmas we salute every soul that has ties to each beating heart that still is alive, in this shell of a body that soon we will shed—together forever with arms outspread!
