It twinkles and sparkles and all through the house the magic appears to others seemingly without a fuss
The children excitedly and gleefully cheer, “hurry up, put it up, Christmas is almost here!”
The mad dash begins, in one store and out another, as our arms get weaker but eager to finish, the long list we must diminish!
Fatigue and hot flashes on the faces of all, while the children remain clueless of the true makers of magic throughout the mall
For you see, on these two shoulders the weight of it all, the Christmas season is upon us but we carry it nice and tall
There are no elves that work for us here, for the true Christmas magic is each parent who struggles each year
One day the children will grow and see for themselves that parents truly make the best elves, you know
Christmas magic will continue as they too will soon see, that it’s up to them to create it and make it the best it can be
So three cheers to us all who try our best to carry it all with a smile, for it’s love and good tidings that truly make the season worthwhile
Believe!
I was at my local salon when the topic of Christmas magic came up. I said, “see these two shoulders, that’s where Christmas magic is carried”. So, I was inspired to write this poem. It got me thinking of all the work, time, money, and effort that goes into the holiday season. I just wanted to send a shout out to all of you busy shoppers, bakers, decorators, and magic makers—I see you and I raise my glass to you!
