Who Inspired You?

I remember going to job interviews in my 20s and feeling extremely anxious right before I’d walk through the door. I would tell myself to think of someone who kicked ass in interviews and often times my younger sister would come to mind, so I would channel her. Always being myself of course, but I would picture how she would walk into a room, how she would address people, and how she would answer questions with confidence. Similarly, when I go shopping and I’m choosing clothes for myself I tend to gravitate to dark colours, but I still hear my old friend from university telling me to explore colour in my wardrobe and to stop buying black and navy clothing (well it was more like ‘Gilda, you need colour in your life, your wardrobe is boring’). So, years later when I have to choose between a bold colour and black I think of her every time and I try to go with colour (key word is try…).

We all have varying strengths and weaknesses. Difficult moments or decisions are often based on a combination of a lack of experience and confidence. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t get through it with a little bit of positive inspiration.

When I decided to go back to school to get my real estate license (it’s inactive, so don’t call me lol) I was totally intimidated. I thought I would not be able to get through the first course because I had never ventured outside of my field of expertise. My father would often say, “impara l’arte e mettila da parte”. It loosely translates to learning something new is never a waste of time because the time will come when it could come in handy. So I said to myself that even if I never sell a house I would go through the courses and learn something new that was foreign to me, but that I enjoyed immensely.

A little bit of inspiration from someone who knows a little more than you in a given situation is often just the right amount of encouragement that you need. I’m certain each of you have been someone’s inspiration at some point in time. Your individual talents has given someone out there the push they needed. I would encourage you to let the person who has inspired you know how they have encouraged you to try something new. Who knows, it may cause a chain reaction of events that is beyond your full understanding. If you are unable to speak to that person just send them good thoughts.

Sending each one of you good thoughts and thanks for being my inspiration each week!

My father. The forever student. My forever inspiration. Always learning new English words and writing them down in his brown leather-bound journal.
He also loves to travel (as do I).

He’s in his 70s!

Success! You're on the list.
